Quality assessment of data and models Joint Research Activity

Overview

To confront systematically the experimental data obtained from the facilities with numerical and modelling results. The expected results from the confrontation are:

  • quality control of the numerical data,
  • the assessment of the validity of working hypotheses, and
  • the identification of the limits of our current understanding, and where further effort is needed.

Means:

  • Development of working groups that permit fast exchanges between experimental facilities and groups specialized in numerical or theoretical efforts. Target research infrastructures: This concerns potentially all infrastructures, and will be coordinated by CNRS-a and MPI-DS.
  • Development of a validation protocol for experimental data, through critical comparison with the existing body of knowledge acquired through experiment as well as with numerical and theoretical results and predictions. Target research infrastructures: This concerns potentially all infrastructures, and will be coordinated by CNRS-a and MPI-DS.
  • Development of joint numerical and theoretical efforts aimed at understanding unexpected or surprising experimental results, both for validation of the data and for fundamental understanding. Target research infrastructures: This concerns potentially all infrastructures, and will be coordinated by CNRS-a and MPI-DS.

Services

This project provides a set of practical rules aimed at reliable validation of experimental results, and at the creation of recommendations for future research directions for experiments, numerics and theory alike. It also documents a number of test flows, with both experimental and numerical data.
